Antique Navajo Fred Harvey Era Whirling Log +Crossed Arrows Coin Silver Spoon 5″

This sale is for a vintage Fred Harvey-era (1900-1939) souvenir Navajo “Whirling Log” (swastika), handcrafted coin silver spoon. This spoon measures about 5-1/4″ long and has a swastika-cut handle and engraved on the bowl, with Navajo motifs and crossed-arrows. It weighs 19.6 grams and is crafted from Coin Silver- typically sourced by Navajo craftsmen from American and Mexican silver coins of the time. It is otherwise unmarked- typical of souvenirs of this type frequently offered at Fred Harvey’s Harvey House hotels and other stops along the old US Route 66. It has a nice patina, which will polish nicely, but I am selling it as-found. The whirling-log or swastika symbol is an ancient symbol found across many cultures, often representing good luck, balance, and well-being. For the Navajo (Diné) people, it is a sacred symbol from their creation story, called “Náhółhis,” which signifies the movement of the constellations, the four directions, and has been used in healing rituals and art for centuries.
