Vintage mid-century travel brochure for the El Navajo Hotel in Gallup, New Mexico. Printed in bright yellow and black, it promotes the hotel, local attractions, Navajo Country tours, and Fred Harvey hospitality services. Includes a detailed map, rates, excursions, and period interior photos of the hotel.

Tri-fold format. Approx. 4 x 9 inches when folded. Light creasing, small edge wear, and mild toning from age.

HISTORY / BIO

The El Navajo Hotel opened in 1918 and became one of the signature stops along the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. It was part of the Fred Harvey system, known for shaping early Southwestern tourism through hotels, restaurants, Native arts programs, and rail hospitality.

Gallup was widely marketed as “The Heart of the Indian Empire,” reflecting how the railroad industry promoted Navajo and Pueblo culture to American travelers. Few pieces of printed material from this era survive in clean condition, making this brochure a desirable historic artifact.
