Item Description from Seller

Being offered is an old, vintage jewelry box.  This is really a cool and kitsch looking box.  This is a miniature Navajo Indian wood hogan.  This was a classic souvenir item purchased along the old route 66, probably sold in Indian trading posts, curio shops, and tourist stopped.  The structure is well made and has hand tooled or etched Native designs around the building.  The designs are similar to the classic motifs and Native designs from the Fred Harvey era, when natives started crafting jewelry, pottery, and curios for the early tourist trade to the southwest.  The hogan looks to be made from cedar wood, and structurally remains in good condition.  There are some white dots in places, and shows typical age related wearing, and could use a cleaning or dusting.  This would be a great additional to a Fred Harvey collection of jewelry.  I am not certain if this was actually Native made as there are no markings, but it would not be unusual if this was crafted at one of the Native workshops created to make curios and souvenirs for the early tourist, as they were located in New Mexico and Arizona cities.  The hogan jewelry box is approx. 6 7/16″ wide by 5 3/4″ wide at the base and 3″ tall.
